Dental emergencies don’t always happen during office hours. When you experience a dental injury, our team at Blackrock Dental is available to help, no matter when you need assistance. We offer same day appointments and after hours service for emergencies.
What to Do for Common Dental Emergencies
If you have a dental injury, call our office immediately and we will schedule treatment as soon as possible to help repair the damage. In the meantime, here are some suggestions on what can be done for common dental emergencies:
Knocked out tooth | Gently try to put the tooth back in the socket, but be very cautious not to touch the tooth root. If this isn’t possible, just try to keep the tooth moist by placing it in milk or between your gums and cheek.
Chipped, broken, or cracked tooth | Carefully clean the damaged tooth with warm water. Use a cold compress on the outside of your mouth to relieve pain and swelling. If you are bleeding, place gauze on the affected area until the bleeding stops.
Tongue, cheek, or lip injury | Rinse your mouth with warm water or a mild salt-water mixture. Hold a moist piece of gauze on the injury until the bleeding stops or we can help with your injury. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth or cheek to help relieve pain.
Severe toothache | Rinse your mouth with warm water. If you have food stuck in your teeth, remove it with dental floss. A cold compress can help if you are experiencing swelling.
